Castle Churburg

Situated above the village of Schluderns there is one of the mightiest and best-preserved castle complexes: the Churburg. The castle was built around the year 1297 by the Count of Chur, Heinrich von Montford. The centre of the castle consists of a very strong keep, the palace and a ring wall. Around the centre there are some outer wards, gates, towers, a Romanesque chapel and a well maintained park.

The castle in its long history has never been destroyed; therefore the many rooms still show the original panelling, paintings and tiled stoves. The Churburg contains the largest private armoury in the world.

Opening times: March to October
